Have a Project to Do? Want to “Kick It Up a Notch”?

The computer lab located on the fourth floor of the Alkek Library has expanded its services to include a new “Digital Production” service. Students now have a place to come within the library to add multimedia components such as still images, video, and music to their projects. Texas State students from all disciplines can use digital communication to take their projects to the next level, allowing them to demonstrate creativity and innovation without having to acquire computer programming or scripting skills.

The Digital Production service features new hardware and software for working with digital media. Among other computer equipment, two Dell Studio XPS machines with powerful specs like six core processors, 8GB RAM, and enhanced graphics processing units are available for Windows users to help get the job done. Windows machines feature the Adobe CS5 Suite and many smaller software programs like Audacity, Camtasia, SnagIt, and others. There are also a couple of powerful Mac Pro computers featuring multiple software programs such as iMovie, Garage Band, and Final Cut Pro. This equipment is located in a large work area to meet the needs of most groups collaborating on assigned projects.

A Digital Production team of five student workers are trained and dedicated to assisting students in compiling multimedia elements, screen captures, and basic video and audio capture and editing. These team members are very helpful and can instruct students on how to complete most processes utilizing the lab’s various software applications and equipment. The Digital Production crew is busy training other lab assistants to expand the amount of support that can be offered.

The equipment and software is available all hours that the computer lab is open. Walk-ins are welcome, but those wishing to ensure adequate time with a digital production team member may want to schedule an appointment.
